EVCC Grounds Crew ‘Springs’ into Action

It appears that Spring has finally sprung.  For the past couple of months, Jeff Holmes and our hard-working EVCC Grounds Crew have been diligently removing snow and making necessary repairs to ensure the course will be in prime condition for the 2015 golf season.  The photos below are just the tip of the iceberg (pun intended) as to the work they put in every year to make our course one of the best in West Michigan.  Follow our blog or join us on our facebook page to be kept up to date on their progress.

In early March, over two feet of snow was removed from the number 7 tee on the Valley course. This work is done to help in the melting process and so the frost can get out of the ground.

Burning of tall grass areas and the ornamental grasses at the entrance pond will get rid of the dead tops and also encourage a quicker green up. It also helps with weed reduction. It is much quicker to burn it than to mow and deal with the debris.

Sod repair on number 17 Ridge green. The turf is dead from ice formation over the winter months. This was caused by the freeze/ thaw cycles that happened in January.

Shattered irrigation pipe about 25 feet long from severe cold and frost deep in the soil. This is a 2.5 inch diameter pipe, needless to say we had a flood when we powered up the irrigation. Repairs are underway.
